I've got in early this week because it's a really exciting surf report for beginner and intermediate surfers! It looks like the patterns are changing and we will be getting a long run of offshore winds coupled in with smaller swell! Also if you're not back at work yet or you can make it out after work Thursday and Friday look pumping too!
Saturday 18th January
Swell - 0.7m or 2ft
Wind - 12 - 15knts Easterly
High Tide - 1.28pm
Low Tide - 7.17am
These are the type of conditions that advanced beginner and intermediate surfer wait all year for!! It's still important to come at the best time for your level and plan your surf around the tide so you score the suitable waves!
Beginners - The conditions will be 10/10 as long as you make it out for the mid tides, look to surf either between 9am until 12.30pm or 2.30pm onwards!
Look Out!! If you're still learning the basics don't try paddle out the back, stay in the shallows where you'll catch more waves and not get in the way of more experienced surfers.
Advanced Beginners - I'd expect there to be really good waves all day. The low tide (an hour either side) and the high tide will have steeper waves so if you're wanting something more mellow plan around that. It's a good day to try paddle out the back if you normally paddle a bit when you surf.
Look Out!! Pick where you surf carefully and remember your surf etiquette.
Intermediates - There will be fun options all day, if it's busy look to head up the beach a bit. There's always uncrowded waves north of the lifeguards and on smaller swells it can get really fun.
Look Out!! If you're surfing in the crowds remember your surf etiquette.
