Surf Report For Beginner & Intermediate Surfers 29th & 30th March

Writer: Dylan WallisDylan Wallis

This time of year is always an Auckland surfers favourite! The trend of offshore winds and smaller swells continue this weekend with great looking conditions for beginner and intermediate surfers.

Sunset Surf
A small peak rolling through unridden!

Saturday 29th March

Swell - 1.4 - 1.2m 3 - 4ft

Wind - 6knts S with an arvo sea breeze

High Tide - 10.22am

Low Tide - 4.35pm

A dropping swell and light winds early should make for a beautiful morning. If you're a beginner the mid tide will be best.

Beginners - There should be really nice waves for learning on Saturday. My pick for best conditions would be 11am - 3pm. The mid tide early will be nice too (dawn - 10am). Right on high tide (10am - 11am) I'd expect some powerful waves coming through (a lot of learners like this) but if you want more mellow waves, come out when I've mentioned above.

Look Out!! It's pretty big tides this weekend so make sure you avoid the Low tide.

Advanced Beginners - The morning should be really fun with options for getting out the back or reform depending on your level and confidence. My pick for best conditions is dawn - midday.

Look Out!! Skip the lower tide.

Intermediates - With the light wind and low tide in the morning, anytime before midday could be fun.

Look Out!! Low tide might have step, hollow waves.

Sunday 30th March

Swell  - 1 - 1.1m 2 - 4ft

Wind  - 11 - 15knts NE

High Tide - 11.02am

Low Tide - 5.16pm

Great conditions on the way for Sunday! Just over 1m and offshore so it will be super fun for all levels!

Beginners - Pretty much the same as Saturday, The mid tide is the best bet! My pick is either 8am - 10am or 12pm - 2pm

Look Out!! It will be a really safe day for learning, just avoid the low tide.

Advanced Beginners - With the size of the swell, it could be good all day if you're confident paddling out the back. Mid tide will be the most mellow, with the high and low tides a little more powerful.

Look Out!! Skip the lower tide if you aren't a strong paddler.

Intermediates - There will be really fun waves all day!

Look Out!! Remember your surf etiquette.
