Easter Weekend Surf Report For Beginner & Intermediate Surfers

Wild weather hitting us the last few days thanks to Cyclone Tam. What does that mean for Easter weekend surf wise?

I'll do the report will be a little different this weekend because it's not easy to say for sure when it will be safe, best or even surfable. The cyclone has come down between NZ and Australia and this means we will see an unusual (West, North West) swell direction for west coast beaches, especially on Friday and Saturday. This can be a good thing and create lots of right handers like the photo below.

The Bay on a west swell.

But it can also lead to very strong currents heading south making it tricky, even if the forecast says it will be good.

My read on it is Friday will be best from about 11am onwards but I'd recommend giving us a call before coming out. The forecast is for small, offshore conditions so it's possible that it's really good!

Saturday is much the same, it could be really good, or quite tricky. Again 11am onwards for best conditions.

Sunday, the swell direction is better so there should be less current. 2.20pm high tide should make for fun learning conditions through the late morning.

Monday is my pick for beginners this weekend with anytime from around midday onwards looking really good.
