Weekend Surf Report - Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September

Updated: Sep 27

Yeew! With the start of daylight savings this weekend, it brings back our in-depth weekend surf reports. We'll try drop them every Friday until the end of summer (end of daylight savings).

Heads Up! The main road out to Muriwai Beach (SH16) will be closed near Kumeu this weekend so expect a little detour.

Beginner and Intermediate Surfers Weekend Surf Report
Beautiful conditions for learning to surf!

Saturday 28th September

Swell - 2.2m - 2.5m

Wind - 15 - 20kts South - South West

High Tide - 6.37am

Low Tide - 12.54pm

A decent swell and unfavourable winds make the conditions look pretty bad but we've been blessed with some really nice beginner sand banks recently. This means you can expect some long gentle white-water waves that are perfect for learning. Sunday looks like it will be better with less swell especially for surfers trying to paddle out a bit but beginners will still find some fun ones on Saturday (if you can't make Sunday).

Beginners - The low tide has been the best option for beginners in the last couple of weeks with a lot of over 30 second rides going down! Expect the best waves to be right in front of the lifeguard tower. 10am -2pm is our pick for best beginner waves, the higher tide won't be bad it will just have more current and power.

Look Out!! The south end (by the rocks) has had a really strong rip. Avoid going in more 50m south of the lifeguard tower.

Advanced Beginners - The higher tide might have some reforms and a couple of unbroken waves just to the south of the tower (20m - 40m) but I'd expect a strong current heading south towards the rocks. Sunday would be a better option if possible.

Look Out!! Avoid the rip by the rocks!!

Intermediates - Pretty much the same as advanced beginners.

Look Out!! Avoid the rip by the rocks!!

Sunday 29th September

Surf report is accurate as of 11am 27/9/24 and is directed at surfers not taking surf lessons with us.
